Relevant work experience and how it relates to Toastmasters and your role as a Board Member:

With 15 years of combined experience as a neuroscientist and pharmaceutical industry leader, I have driven patient-centric research and initiatives to develop innovative and sustainable solutions aimed at improving lives. My rigorous Ph.D. training honed my critical thinking and analytical skills, enabling me to tackle complex scientific and clinical challenges. This background equips me with the skills to address patient-related issues through detailed research and deliver impactful solutions within budgets and time limits.
As a medical affairs executive, I bridge the gap between the pharmaceutical industry, healthcare professionals, and patients through education and strategic collaborations to help turn scientific ideas into real treatments that help people. My role demands the highest ethical standards promoting transparency and providing scientifically sound information. This commitment contributes to better healthcare outcomes and maintains public confidence in the medical and pharmaceutical industries.
Beyond my work in the industry, I hold the position of Executive Director at an educational nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth and early-career professionals through hands on STEM programs. In this capacity, I oversee the enhancement of internal policies, the development and implementation of innovative curricula, the advancement of technology integration, and the execution of impactful initiatives.
Throughout my career, I have successfully led cross-functional teams across North America and South Asia in education and research. Along with scientific and strategic expertise, I bring clarity of purpose, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to authentic leadership and competencies essential for effective board service.

What experience do you have in strategic planning?

My journey in strategic planning began early as a research scientist ensuring long-term and short-term strategies were in place to account for uncertainties of scientific research and to remain agile and adaptable. Setting research goals with testable hypotheses that met high scientific and ethical standards was the key. I innovated within a budget by forming smart collaborations and focusing on impactful research that could lead to real progress.
In my current role in medical affairs, I continue to keep the purpose of making patient lives better at the center of strategy by focusing on how science, medicine, and business can work together to improve patient lives.
As Executive Director of an educational nonprofit, I created a three-year plan to grow the organization. The plan included strategic imperatives to restructure the organization, adopt technology and create helpful programs through meaningful partnerships. This implementation doubled enrollment and increased community participation.
As a Toastmasters board member from 2022-2024, I participated in the development of the strategic plan implemented for the years 2024-2027. This required critical thinking, rational decision-making, teamwork to reach consensus, and a solid grasp of the organization to align member growth with overall organization growth.

What experience do you have in the area of finance?

I was a key member of teams that managed research funding, ranging from 250,000 - 5 million from start to finish, which included the development of numerous grant proposals, carefully overseeing all budget, planning, and procurement details. My focus is on maximum impact for every dollar. I aim to find the most cost-effective ways to use limited resources, ensuring a high-impact outcome. Once projects are funded, I manage budgets, perform monthly reviews of expenses and make quarterly adjustments as needed. This process ensures all work stays on track, meets our strategic goals, and delivers important results on time. Crucially, I use these projects to build strong partnerships that help teams share resources, improve ideas, and succeed together.

What experience do you have in developing policies?

Driving change begins with strong, purpose-driven policy. Without clear, focused policies, organizations can stray from their mission and lose focus. As Executive Director of an educational nonprofit, I led the development of clear policies governing operations and roles to ensure alignment with our mission, mitigate risk, and promote accountability.
In my role as a medical affairs professional, I work closely with the regulatory team to assess and refine policies that ensure compliant, ethical, transparent, and legally sound interactions with healthcare professionals to provide balanced, credible, scientifically backed information.
As a strategic consultant, I helped transform a stagnant board of eight into a focused, engaged team of six by implementing governance policies that brought clarity and momentum.
As a Toastmasters International Director, I assessed and shaped policies that aligned with evolving organizational needs, establishing clear guidelines to support strategic goals and ensuring that the organization remains focused on the mission and vision at all levels.
Across all roles, I have learned how the right policies not just support operations but also inspire progress, build trust, and create a foundation for sustainable success.

What lessons did you learn from previous leadership positions?

In all my leadership roles, I learned that the three essential pillars of effective leadership are clarity, courage, and conscience.
In the fast-changing world with innovative ideas and tools coming at lightning speed, having clarity about where we are now and where we are headed helps stay focus on what truly matters.
Choosing courage as a leader is key. Bold and tough decisions to grow an organization that includes its stakeholders can come with fear and uncertainties. As a leader, one must choose courage in those times, prepare the organization for change, and empower other leaders to do what is right and needed. It is equally important to create a safe space, listen, recognize the needs of the people, and empower them with tools to grow and thrive.
At the core, leadership is a matter of conscience. Do what is right and not what is easy. I practice every day to balance head and heart in my leadership journey, where I am driven by science and data and guided by core values for a lasting impact.

What experience and key strengths would you bring to the Board of Directors?

I bring 15 years of experience as a researcher, educator, and medical professional, with a strong track record of solving complex problems and making value-driven decisions. I work directly with senior leaders to turn ideas into action, ensuring every decision stays true to core values. I speak up when it matters and create space for diverse voices to be heard. My leadership on nonprofit boards and as a Toastmasters International Director reflects my ability to guide teams through change with clarity and purpose. Having grown up in Asia and lived in North America for nearly 20 years, I offer a global perspective and deep cross-cultural insight. My leadership spans industries and continents and I stay focused on sustainable solutions that help organizations thrive in a changing world

Why do you want to serve as an International Officer/Director?

Our organization stands at a crucial juncture. While our century of experience is invaluable, navigating future uncertainties demands not only clarity in direction but also the courage to pursue bold actions that drive meaningful impact throughout the organization. We need leaders who are daring, fearless, demonstrate grit, can reimagine, and commit to prioritizing courage over complacency, team over individual, and excellence over mediocrity.
I belong to the school of such fearless and authentic leadership. Leveraging my scientific background and strategic leadership, I make informed decisions to advance organizational objectives. Serving on the strategic board of an educational nonprofit has given me important insight into how to support and empower the next generation. I will bring clarity, courage, and service-driven purpose to make the hard decisions that will shape the organization's legacy for the next hundred years.

What volunteer experience do you have outside of Toastmasters?

Volunteering allows me to embody the Toastmasters’ value of service. As a scientific researcher, I regularly interact with patients and their families, and volunteer in patient groups to better understand their perspectives. These efforts keep me motivated and help my organization improve its support for the community.
As an educator, I am committed to dedicating time and resources toward fostering the development of future generations who will contribute to shaping tomorrow's world. I continue to volunteer for multiple organizations and programs involving youth development. I have volunteered for North South Foundation (NSF), the Society for Neuroscience – Youth Chapters (SFN-youth), and the Community Consulting Team Atlanta (CCT). I have collaborated with teams to develop education programs, disseminate knowledge, and mentor young individuals.

Have you worked with other Boards of Directors outside of Toastmasters? If so, describe your experience.

I am currently working with the Board of Advisors at iStart Valley, a non-profit organization, which I have been associated with for the last twelve years. My goal as part of the diverse board has been to find creative and strategic ways to identify growth opportunities and increase community outreach.
As a pharmaceutical industry professional, I work in committees to identify strategic and operational pain points and devise strategies for effective cross-functional collaboration. Early in my career, I chaired executive committees and volunteered for Emory University and National Postdoctoral Associations to develop policies and advocate for better opportunities for researchers.

In your opinion, what are Toastmasters International’s major objectives and how would you work to achieve them?

Club quality, recognition, and leadership development are not just priorities but are the foundation of our future. Strengthening these pillars is essential to building a path of consistent and sustainable growth at every level of our organization.
We can achieve this by implementing strategies that empower clubs to run effective, high-impact meetings, and introducing customized training tools that serve the diverse needs of our members. Further, we must elevate leadership training by integrating self-awareness, a growth mindset, and strategic thinking.
As a millennial leader, I understand the unique challenges and aspirations of young professionals. Therefore, I am committed to strategically engage this vital demographic, expanding Toastmasters’ influence, and making a measurable impact on our communities.
